GUIDELINES FOR LIFE GROUPS – 21 April 2010

JOY

Theme: The word happiness evokes thoughts of loved ones, gifts, vacations, laughter and probably many more thoughts can easily come to mind. The problem with happiness is that it finds its root in happenings and when they are no longer their happiness is also no longer there. The contrast to happiness is JOY. Joy runs deeper and stronger. It is that quiet confidence we can have in our God who is the beginning and the end. Where happiness depends on happenings, Joy depends on Jesus.

JOY IN SUFFERING

Theme Scripture: Philippians 1: 1-30
Ask the LG the following questions:
1.Do you sometimes feel that you are not making any progress? (This could be progress spiritually, progress in your career/studies, progress in the life’s situation you are in)
-      How do we fall into this trap?
Read v6 again – When you feel incomplete, unfinished, or distressed remember God’s promise and provision.
2.In v21 it says ”For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” What does this verse and accompanying verses 22-26 mean to you?
-      What do these scriptures say to you regarding purpose?
-      What is the strategy to maintain your purposed course even in trying times?

3.How should we conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ? v27

Ministry Time
Ask the group if there is anyone who feels that they are not making any progress in life. As a group pray Philippians 1:6 into their situation.
