Dear Leader,

Life Group Guideline

Opening Prayer

When you think about Billy Graham what comes to mind?
(Is it his message of salvation and the multitudes that came to Christ because of his preaching about the cross? Or is it his lifestyle of integrity and faithful service to the Lord through the years?)

#NT260 Check in

In Mark 5 Jesus delivers a demon-possessed man, raises a girl from the dead, and heals a woman with an issue of blood. He ministered with complete authority.

Read Mark 6:7-13. Jesus sent out the twelve disciples to preach about the Kingdom, and to call people to repentance. He gave them authority to heal the sick and cast out demons. Take a moment to reflect on this as a group. Imagine the disciples going out in pairs to different towns and villages. Picture the people they ministered to and the rejoicing that must have taken place when they were healed and delivered. Consider how the disciples must have felt being used by the Lord to perform miracles.
- Do you see yourself as a disciple of Jesus?
- Do you believe that you have been given authority to preach and minister healing and deliverance to those in need?

1. The Message of the Cross (Extracts from his teaching on the Cross)

There have been times that I've wept as I've gone from city to city and I've seen how far people have wondered from God.
The cross is offensive because it confronts people. Even so, it's a confrontation that all of us must face.
One reason that the cross is an offense to people is because it demands, it doesn't suggest. It demands a new lifestyle in all of us. Sin is a disease in the human heart, it affects the mind, and the will and the emotions. Every part of our being is affected by this disease.

How can we break this bondage? How can we be set free? God helps us break these chains. He can make us a totally new person. The Bible says, "If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. Old things have passed away, everything becomes new."

On the cross God was laying on Jesus our sins. They not only put nails in His hands but before that they scourged Him. And then they took that cross and made Him carry the cross in His weakened condition. And they put nails in His hands. But that was not the real suffering. The real suffering was when He said, "My God why hast thou forsaken me?" In that terrible moment, Jesus and God the Father were separated.

He shed His blood and the shedding of that blood carried with it God's very life. The blood is the meeting place between God and man. The Bible says that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. And that is what Christ was doing on the cross. He was making atonement for our sins. The cross and the resurrection of Christ offers forgiveness of sin, offers us a whole new life, and offers us eternal life. Jesus says that He will save us, and forgive us and change us and make us a new person if we come to the cross by repentance and faith.

There is no other way of salvation except through the cross of Christ. Jesus said, "I am the way the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father but by me."

Now why Jesus? Because He is the only one that was born into this world without sin. But more than that, He is the Righteous One and can clothe us in His righteousness. God no longer sees our sin. He no longer sees your own heart. He sees Jesus.

When you come to Christ you come by the way of repentance. To repent means to change your way of living, to turn from your sins and turn to Jesus Christ and say "I'm a sinner, I need forgiveness, and you're the only one who can change me".

- What does the cross and the blood of Jesus mean to you today?
- When you repented of your sins and turned to God, what changes in lifestyle did you make? What decisions are you continuing to make as you live your life in the shadow of the cross?

2. A lifestyle of integrity

Billy Graham served faithfully over many decades. He spoke words of life. He shared a message of hope. He was faithful to his wife. He stayed the course. He finished strong.

Read Philippians 2:12-16
Read Matthew 25:23

- How can we shine like stars in a crooked and depraved generation?
- Have you got a vision for finishing strong? What can you start, stop or continue doing that will help you to finish strong?

Prayer ministry:

Encourage your Life Group members to rededicate their lives to the Lord and to living a life of service to God. Pray for the Holy Spirit to help them live with integrity, hold dear the message of the cross, and to finish well.
