Introduction

God's heart for us as a church is that we view ourselves as an army for the Lord! Each one of us has been called to make Christ's mission our mission. It is a wonderful calling. How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news? There are people who need you and me to walk into their worlds proclaiming peace, bringing good tidings, and declaring salvation.
Jesus lived each day with a clear sense of His mission. And we too need to live each day of our lives with a clear sense of His mission being our mission. 3 heart attitudes are needed for Missional living.

1. On Fire!

We need to be On Fire! Our hearts need to be on fire for the Lord. And this happens when we have a personal encounter with Jesus ... when we have ongoing personal encounters with Him.

Reflect on how Jesus met with two of his followers on the road to Emmaus? And how he walked with them and talked with them and then broke bread with them. They were so fired up after this encounter that they declared to each other "Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" And they got up at once and returned to Jerusalem where they met the disciples and told them about their encounter with the Lord.
Mention how Jesus seems to have deliberately sought out and met with key people after his resurrection.

• Mary Magdalene (who loved Him and who had been delivered of 7 demons)
• Thomas (who struggled with doubt)
• Peter (who had denied Christ)

When was the last time you had a personal encounter with the Lord? What did He say to you? What has changed in your life since that encounter? Or are you in need of a fresh touch from the Lord.

Hebrews 11:6 says that "The Lord is a rewarder of all who diligently seek Him".

Daily quiet times are so important, and abiding in His presence throughout the day is what He longs for. Yet our busy lives can hinder us from spending the amount of time we need to have powerful encounters with the Lord. The kind of encounters that cause our hearts to burn!

Question: How do you feel about fasting a meal, switching off the technology for a few hours and pressing into the Lord's presence? Ask if anyone has a testimony to share of when they did this?

2. In love!

For the Lord's mission to be our mission we need to be in love with the Lord. We need to be compelled by love. In John 21 we read the beautiful story of Jesus restoring Peter.

Read John 21:15-17

Question: Who is the flock under your care? (which people do you have access to that the Lord wants you to care for?). How full is your love tank for the Lord, and how will this make a difference in your approach to your flock?

3. Ever watchful!

Read Luke 12:35-37

Question: What do you think about this statement. "We are living in the year 2018 and it seems that many people, even believers, have become cynical, not really believing that Jesus could return in their lifetime. This is serious ... because when we lose our watchfulness it is just a matter of time before we lose our dedication to Christ's mission."

Prayer ministry:

Have a time of open prayer as the Holy Spirit leads. Afterwards pray for anyone that has a specific prayer need.
