Icebreaker and #NT260 Check in:

Philippians is a letter that contains so much about God's joy. Chapter 1 - Joy in suffering. Chapter 2 - Joy in serving. Chapter 3 - Joy in believing. Chapter 4 – Joy in giving. What difference does joy make in your life?

Theme – Fully engaged with God's Word.
Key Scripture
Read Deuteronomy 11:18-24
These are words spoken by Moses. But Moses was speaking on behalf of the Almighty God. So the words in these verses are to be received as the words of Almighty God. And they emphasise the importance of engaging with God's Word, immersing in and occupying yourself with God's Word, soaking in God's Word.

1. You - Personal engagement with God's Word
Deuteronomy 13:18 "Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes."
Frontlets are prayer bands consisting of passages from the Law of Moses which were put into small pouches and strapped to the forehead and left arm. Frontlets symbolize keeping God's Word central over our vision. Letting him be our focus and preoccupation. And tying God's Word to your arm speaks about keeping God's Word close to your heart. The scriptures in the frontlets focused on Deliverance out of Egypt, Celebration of the Passover, Loving God with all your heart soul mind and strength.

Psalm 119:11 "Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You."
Psalm 119:2 (AMPC) "Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are they who keep His testimonies, and who seek, inquire for and of Him and crave Him with the whole heart.

Discussion 1: What do you do to keep the Word of God front of mind and central in your heart? What difference has it made in your life?

2. Your children - Teach your children to treasure God's Word.
Parents have a responsibility to instil a love for God's Word in your children's lives.
We need to bring back the dining room table and have conversations during meals so that we can discuss and apply biblical principles to our daily situations. The Word of God should be a normal part of household conversations.
Deuteronomy 11:19 AMP "And you shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you rise up."
Fathers have a primary responsibility in instilling God's Word. Ephesians 6:4 " Fathers, do not irritate and provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to resentment], but rear them [tenderly] in the training and discipline and the counsel and admonition of the Lord."
Discussion 2: Encourage LG members to share testimonies from their own childhoods. Who of you spent time regularly with your parents reading the Word and praying together? What have you done in your households with your children to teach them to treasure God's Word?

3. Public Testimony - Make your belief in God's Word visible to others.
Deuteronomy 11:20 'And you shall write them on the doorpost of your house and on your gates.'
Some ideas to make your belief in the Word of God visible to others. Scriptures in your home, scriptures in your office, social media, WhatsApp status.
Discussion 3: What can we do to make our belief in God more visible in our homes and places of work? Challenge - Take stock of your home and check if you have a scripture anywhere in your home.

4. Possess - If you follow God's Word you will become a possessing people.
Read Deuteronomy 11:22-24
God wants us to be a possessing people. God has given us promises through His Word but we still need to go in and take possession of the promises.
Leader testimony. Think about a time where you held onto a promise from God and it was fulfilled. Share with your group.
Prayer ministry:
Pray for those in need.
