Dear Leader

Life Group Guideline for the week.

Opening Prayer:

Worship:

Icebreaker:
What should we do as our next Life Group social? (Take time to discuss and agree on a LG social for Term 3. Delegate the responsibility for organising the social to your Assistant leader or to someone else in your LG. It's a nice way to get others involved.)

#NT260 Check in:
In Hebrews a lot of reference is made to Jesus as our High Priest. What does this mean to you?

Theme – We are the family of God.

Each of us has been placed into an earthly family. God's heart is for our families to be a blessing, a safe place, a place where we belong. In addition to our earthly families God has made way for us to become part of His family, and in so doing become part of the family of God.

1. We are wonderfully privileged to be part of God's family

Read 1 John 3:1-2 (NKJV)
Verse 1 (AMP) – "See what [an incredible] quality of love the Father has given (shown, bestowed on) us, that we should [be permitted to] be named and called and counted the children of God! And so we are!"

It is an immense privilege to be included in the family of God. To be called a child of God. We need to be careful of taking this for granted rather than pondering on the wonder and privilege of being Born again (Adopted into God's family).

Discussion 1: Share briefly on what being part of God's family means to you?

2. As a member of God's family you have brothers and sisters

Hebrews 3:1 (GW) – "Brothers and sisters, you are holy partners in a heavenly calling."

Hebrews 13:1 – "Let brotherly love continue."

When we become part of God's family we gain other believers as our brothers and sisters. The Apostle used the word brethren more than 60 times in his letters. In the Greek language brethren is never used to pretend that they are your brothers and sisters. It is used to refer that they are actual brothers and sisters.

Discussion 2: What would our world be like if all believers treated one another as brothers and sisters? How should we behave and speak to other brothers and sisters in the Lord?

3. Stay closely connected to your spiritual family

Hebrews 10:24-25 – "And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching."

Hebrews 10:25 (CEV) – "Some people have gotten out of the habit of meeting for worship, but we must not do that."

Psalm 68:6 (NLT) – "God places the lonely in families."

Discussion 3: There is a trend in the world towards individualism where people want to function apart from others. What are your thoughts on this?

Discussion 4: What are the advantages of staying closely connected to your spiritual family?

4. Be assured that you belong

Ephesians 2:19-22 – "Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit."

Discussion 5: Ask group members to share testimonies of times where they have had a deep sense of belonging as part of the family of God? (Have you ever been in another part of the country or the world and encountered a sense of belonging from other brothers and sisters in the Lord?)

Prayer ministry

Pray for and minister to one another.
