GUIDELINES FOR LIFE GROUPS – 21 October 2009

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES – PRAYER IS THE FOUNDATION FOR ACTION?

Theme: In Nehemiah 1 we see how the challenges Nehemiah faced caused him to run to God in prayer. Time with God allowed for deep reflection, repentance and restoration of the vision and promise. Nehemiah then did as we all should and that is put faith into action through careful strategic planning.

Theme Scripture: Read Nehemiah 2:1-18

Ask the LG the following questions:

1.Describe the focus and content of Nehemiah’s plans in the following areas?

  • How he communicated and worked with the king to set a process in motion for rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem.(2:1-10)
(He seized the opportunity to approach people of influence and he knew what he required of them to ensure the fulfillment of God’s plan)
  • How he studied and assessed the situation in Jerusalem(2:11-16)
(He personally, quietly and thoroughly assessed the challenge)
  • How he communicated with the people in Jerusalem and motivated them to take part in the project(2:17-18)

(He shared the plan with others and encouraged them with past successes)

2.Recall the challenge you are facing as shared with the LG last week and take 5 minutes to write down three or four actions or steps you can take to face your challenge. Let this be the start of your strategic plan.

3.What one item in your strategic plan can your LG members keep you accountable for as you seek to implement your plan to face your challenge?

If we as God’s people are going to press through to overcome challenges then from this portion of scripture we need the following:
  • Clear minds
  • Clear plans
  • A willingness to work hard
