GUIDELINES FOR LIFE GROUPS – 27 January 2010

BUILDING COMMUNITY – WALK IN THE SPIRIT (Part 1)

Theme: Jesus was not only fully God. He was also fully man. His life models for us what life can be like to live in the Spirit. The life of Jesus and the ministry of the Holy Spirit are inextricably intertwined.

Luke 1:15/Luke 1:35/Luke 1:41-42/Luke 3:21-22/Luke 4:18-19

Theme Scripture: Acts 2: 1-24

Ask the LG the following questions:
1.Take a moment to think of how the life of Jesus is an example of how we can live in intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit! Share your thoughts with the LG.

  • Filled with the Holy Spirit(Acts 2:1-13)
In our day heaven and earth are on tiptoe waiting for the emerging of a Spirit-led, Spirit-intoxicated, Spirit-empowered people – Richard Foster
2.Imagine you could be in the crowd on the day of Pentecost. Imagine you were one of those who became a follower of Jesus on that day. How do you think they would describe the coming and the work of the Holy Spirit?
3.Some people still mocked!!(Acts 2:13). Why do you think some people respond to the presence and work of the Holy Spirit and others remain hard hearted and resistant?
4.Describe a time when the Holy Spirit broke through to you?

  • Changed by the Holy Spirit (Luke 22:54-62 and Acts 2:14-24)

When the Spirit is at work, change happens!! It may vary in pace and form but transformation always takes place.

5.The same Peter who denied Jesus is now boldly speaking of Jesus! How has Peter’s attitude and actions been changed since he has been filled with the Holy Spirit?
6.How have you changed since being filled with the Holy Spirit?
Ministry Time
Ask the LG if there is anyone who has not been filled with the Holy Spirit and if they would like the LG to pray for them. Check with them if they have surrendered their lives to Jesus and made Him their Lord and Saviour and then as a LG pray together for them for the infilling of the Holy Spirit!
