GUIDELINES FOR LIFE GROUPS – 3 March 2010

BUILDING COMMUNITY – DEVOTED TO THE WORD (PART 1)

Theme: If you were stranded on an island and could choose one book to take with you what would it be? A prominent Christian author was once asked this question and his reply was “Thomas’s guide to practical ship building!” His response makes perfect sense. In such a situation you want the best information to rescue yourself from the predicament you are in. It’s the same with our lives. We are stranded on an island of sin and death and the Bible is the only book that tells us how to get home.

Theme Scripture: Acts 2:14-42

1.How has God used His Word to guide you from the island of sin and death?
2.Read a passage of Scripture that inspires, encourages and uplifts you.

  • Saturated in scripture

Peter interprets Pentecost in the light of Scripture. Remember, he had no opportunity to prepare and had no idea when Pentecost would come. He was saturated in God’s Word!!

3.Peter quoted from at least three Old Testament Scriptures. How did the Scriptures shape and form Peter’s view of Pentecost?
-      How did the people respond when they heard God’s Word presented clearly?
4.Describe the life of a person who you know who is saturated in God’s Word?
-      How has this person influenced and challenged your life to know God’s Word more fully?
5.Tell about a time when you had consistent and disciplined time meditating on God’s Word?
-      How did this focus on God’s Word impact your life?
-      How is God shaping your thoughts, attitudes, motives or actions through His Word right now?
