GUIDELINES FOR LIFE GROUPS – 10 March 2010

BUILDING COMMUNITY – DEVOTED TO THE WORD (PART 2)

THE CENTRALITY OF THE WORD

Theme: Take a moment to think about the central theme of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation and what thought comes to your mind? What do you think will happen if you could convince every unbeliever to read the gospels? I believe that the Words central theme is God’s desire to have fellowship with mankind to the point of giving His only son Jesus so we can be reconciled with Him.

Theme Scripture: Acts 6:1-7 and Acts 8:26-35

1.What do you learn about the importance of proclaiming Gods Word in Acts 6:1-7?
2.In Acts 8:26-35 how did the seeking of the Ethiopian influence what happened?
-      How did Philip’s willingness to explain the truth of God’s Word impact the situation?
-      How was the truth and the power of God’s Word at work in this encounter?
-      How was the Holy Spirit leading and guiding what happened?
-      If you were to put all these pieces of the puzzle together how would you describe how God used the written Word to transform a life?
3.Respond to the following statements:
-      If we are not people of the Word first, we will be powerless at impacting the world!
-      God’s Word first, service second!
4.Becoming people of the Word takes effort! What makes it tough to slow down enough to spend time in the Word?
5.What are some of the practical changes we need to make to schedule our lifestyles around spending time in God’s Word?
-      What portion of scripture would you like to commit to meditating on in the next couple of weeks?
6.Who can keep you accountable and will encourage you to press into praying and reflecting on this portion of scripture you have chosen?

Closing
Spend some time thanking God for His written Word. You may wish to pray some of Psalm 119 during this time.
