Life Group Guidelines!

Grow! Be committed to Personal Growth

Our lives can feel like a whirling wind of activities. At times we may go through a day and wonder what exactly happened. As a result of this we may feel like our lives are spinning out of control and that we are not really in touch with what is going on in our lives and the lives of others around us. Symptoms of this can show itself up in strained spousal relationships, strained relationship with our children, constant tiredness and even a lack of physical health as we neglect dietary and exercise requirements. From time to time we just need to take a "time out" and set up a personal growth plan or review whether we are still on track with our personal growth plan. A commitment to personal growth starts with a commitment to maintain and grow our spiritual life - our relationship with Father!

Theme scriptures:
2 Peter 3:18; 1 Timothy 4:7,15; Romans 14:12; Phillipians 3:12-14; Luke 2:52

Discuss the following:

  1. 2 Peter 2:18 - Discuss the importance of having our relationship with Jesus as central to the success of any personal growth plan.
  2. 1 Timothy 4:7,15 - What impact will we have on others if they are able to see our growth in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity?
  3. Romans 14:12 - Personal growth is something we can only do for ourselves. It is the one thing we actually have control over and we on our own are accountable to God. However, how by making ourselves accountable to others for our personal growth plan will it help us and encourage us to stay on track?
  4. Phillipians 3:12-14 - Momentum! Discuss the importance of keeping momentum to continue our growth? Note: You can use the illustration of an off road vehicle climbing a high dune if it loses momentum on the way up it will slide back!
  5. Luke 2:52 - How can we make the pursuit of these growth areas of Jesus our own goal? Discuss practical actions for each goal.

Close the discussion by adding that it is important to keep the following in mind if you are starting or would like to develop your personal growth plan.

  1. 1.Keep it simple
  2. 2.Keep it measurable
  3. 3.Keep it attainable
  4. 4.Keep it relevant
  5. 5.Keep it time orientated

Ministry Time:

For some of the members in the Life Group this topic may be a real area of struggle. By discussing personal growth the opportunity will be created for the Holy Spirit to really minister to them. Follow this through by making time available to pray for one another that we will be strengthened in this area of our lives!
